菩提树下诵经

来自六个南传佛教国家的500名僧众,700年来第二次聚集在佛陀觉悟的树下,以巴利文进行十天的大藏经唱诵。此项由藏传团体所赞助的活动,试图在南北藏传佛教三大派系之间建立无宗派的桥梁。

500 monks and nuns, representing the nations which are homes to Theravada Buddhism (India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Myanmar and Thailand) participated in 10 days of dawn-to-dusk chanting of the Tipitaka in Pali under the Bodhi Tree under which Buddha attained Enlightenment 2550 years ago. The event, sponsored by Light of Buddhadarma Foundation (LBDF), grew out of Vajrayana teacher, Tarthang Tulku抯 wish to revive the teachings of the Buddha in their original place and to unite the Sangha under a single umbrella. 和平奖得主

Dharma Master Cheng Yen of Taiwan will be awarded the 24th Niwano Peace Prize for having founded the Buddhist Compassion Relief Tzu Chi Foundation which propogates Buddhist teaching and spirit as well as provides a new outlook on Buddhism through its contributions in charity, medical treatment, education, culture and international aid.

佛教大学会议

来自南亚、东南亚和美国的22间南传佛教大学和佛学院首次聚集缅甸,进行佛学课程和研究的讨论。

Scholars from 22 Theravada Buddhist universities and colleges of Buddhist studies from India, Nepal, Malaysia, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, Myanmar and USA met together for the first time on 9th of March in Myanmar. The Association of Theravada Buddhist Universities (ATBU - http://atbu.org) was formed to promote Buddhist studies through inter-university student exchange and joint research projects.

优良的网上游戏

A senior officer at the Religious Affairs Department in Thailand created the "Ethics Game" which teaches about morals and doing good after a boy attacked his mother because she refused to give him money to play on-line games. While killing might be the aim in most popular games, here in "Ethics Game", hurting even an animal means losing points. 10,000 CDs of the game was launched and warmly welcomed by Thai children.
